This syndrome occurs when an athlete trains too intensively and\/or too frequently, and is unable to manage recovery phases<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The symptoms and intensity of overtraining may vary from athlete to athlete, but the most typical are :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>- Reduced performanc<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>- Muscle and joint pain<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>- Fatigue, lack of energy and exhaustion<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>- Sleep disorders<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>- Stress and anxiety<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>- High blood pressure<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>- Weakened immune system<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>There are a number of ways to avoid overtrainin<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1) Periodization of training<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plan your sessions, start and restart your workouts progressively (load and\/or intensity).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2) Consult a kinesiologist to assess your physical condition and create an appropriate training plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3) Favour the \"Training for pleasure\" vs. the \"Performance\" approac<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4) Don\u2019t neglect the recovery phase<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Always listen to your body to avoid injury. Recovery phases can involve good sleep, diet, hydration and light physical activity (such as walking or stretching).
