Why you're stuck despite rigorous training

You do everything "right." You train regularly, stick to your program and push when it gets hard. Yet for the past few weeks, your performance hasn't moved.

Before you add a session or load up more weight, ask yourself one thing. Does your training still match what your body can absorb?

Progress comes down to a balance between training stimulus and recovery. The stimulus is the effort you ask of your body. If it's demanding enough, your body has a reason to adapt. Recovery gives it the time to do so.

If the load keeps going up without enough recovery, your performance can end up plateauing. On the other hand, if the stimulus always stays the same, your body may simply have adapted to it.

  • A program that no longer changes
  • Not enough recovery
  • Poorly distributed volume
  • Training that no longer matches your goal

In kinesiology, we look at these factors and adjust your training to your abilities, your goals and your progress.
